There were 372 published games in the opening round of the Women's event, and exactly one of them qualified. India, Georgia, Kazakhstan, China and the United States all won 4-0, and nine of the top ten seeds finished the day with a clean sweep.
The exception was Togo's Isabelle Mamah, rated 1886, who beat Marjona Malikova of Uzbekistan 2, rated 2149. A 263-point gap is modest set against what later rounds produced, but it clears the bar on merit rather than by default.
With mismatches this wide, a first round is mostly about getting through undamaged, and almost every seeded team managed it. The standings show the consequence: ten teams on maximum points and a great many shared places.
